I. General Procedures
A. Bring to class every day these items: pen or pencil and paper. Your student curriculum notebook will be stored in the classroom. Class work cannot be done without all proper materials. No one will be allowed to return to the lockers for materials.
B. Upon entering the room, get out your student curriculum notebook and/or assignment and be prepared to begin class. Be seated, ready to start class and quiet when the tardy bell rings.
C. The class break between classes is the time for bathroom activities, drinking water, using the telephone, etc. If there is not enough time between classes, plan these activities before school, at noon or after school.
D. Absolutely no candy or food (except from food labs) is to be eaten in the classroom. This is school policy!
E. Grading scale:
90%-100% = A
80% - 89% = B
70% - 79% = C
60% - 69% = D
Below 60% results in not passing
Grades are received as a result of the total number of points earned from assignments. Every assignment can add points to make your total score. The percentage of points earned in relation to the total points possible is calculated and the grade is determined from the above scale. All assignments are important to the total score. Points are earned from tests, group work, projects, homework, quizzes, daily work, and attitude.
F. Absences. If you need to be absent from class, remember to obtain an admit to class BEFORE returning to class. Getting an admit does not give you the right to be late to class!
NOTE: School Board policy sets attendance requirements.
G. I realize that sitting at tables makes it very easy to talk to your table partners, but it does make it more convenient for our numerous group activities. Because of the closeness, you must exercise additional restraint and practice good concentration to accomplish class objectives. If you are unable to function properly at your table assignment, you will be moved to a more acceptable place!
II. Class Activities
A. To assist you in learning the information covered in this course, each student will be assigned a student notebook, which is a curriculum/workbook. This notebook is used statewide by family and consumer sciences teachers and students, which helps to assure you of a more equalized content background. It will be used primarily as your class text. It provides you with a list of unit objectives and information to be covered in a particular unit. Thus, as a student, you will have no question as to what is expected of you in each unit. It also provides assignment sheets which will be completed and turned in periodically for daily grades.
B. During certain class activities, you will be expected to furnish your own supplies. I realize this will be an added family expense, so I will always try to give ample notice when supplies are needed. If your class is involved in a sewing unit, it would be your major expense, as the school provides money to purchase food supplies for most food labs.
C. No late work will be accepted unless prior arrangements have been make with the instructor! The only exception to this is when you have been absent. All assignments must be make up, or a grade of zero will be recorded. You will be allowed a period of make-up time equal to the time you were absent. (This is school policy)
D. Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is an integral part of the family and consumer sciences program. All students enrolled in a family and consumer sciences class, as well as those previously enrolled, are strongly encouraged to participate in FCCLA activities at the local, sub-district, and state level. Annual dues are $12.00 per student. Dues should be paid by October 1!
E. Conduct yourself as the ladies and gentlemen that you are! If I am called away from the room, I expect you to remain in your seat and to work on your assignment. Remember, your purpose in being here is to receive an education! I will do anything and everything to help you, but I must have your cooperation in return. Should any question ever arise, just ask and I will be glad to help.
